How to Install/Apply Fonts for Galaxy S9/S9+
Method 1: Without Substartum/Andromeda
- Download and install SamsungSans Font from Galaxy Apps: Download. It is a must to have this installed before proceeding. Without this font installed, the following steps will not work.
- Download and install any of this APK File: Wings XDA 968 Fonts – OREO.apk [You need to enable Unknown Sources option if you are prompted to, to install this APK file]
- Install ADB and Fastboot on your PC.
- On your Samsung device, go to Settings > About Phone > Software information. Tap on the Build number continuously until you a toast message saying Developer options have been enabled.
- Go to Settings > Developer options. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled.
- Reboot your Galaxy S9 and PC.
- Go to the folder where ADB and Fastboot are installed on your PC. Open a command prompt from inside the folder. To do this: Hold down Shift + Right Click > Select ‘Open command window here’ or ‘Open PowerShell window here’.
- Connect your Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ to your PC.
- On your computer, execute the following command on your command prompt:
adb devices
If this is your first time connecting your device to your PC with USB Debugging enabled, you will be prompted with ‘Allow USB Debugging?’. Tap on ‘Always allow from this computer’ and tap on OK.Â
- Next, execute the following command on your command prompt:
adb shell
Once you hit the Enter key, you will get the codename for your device (for example ‘star2lte’ is the codename for the Galaxy S9+).
- Next, execute the below command in command prompt:
cmd overlay enable com.monotype.android.font.samsungsans.WingsSamsungFonts.XDA968FontsbyWinb33
Please note that, you may not need to pass all the above commands to your phone, simply pass the commands that are only required for the APK you install.

1. Display 2. Screen zoom and font 3. Change Font - Choose and apply the font you like!
1. Choose Font 2. After applying - Done!
Method 2: With Substratum and Andromeda

Substratum:Â
Andromeda: - Download and install SamsungSans Font from Galaxy Apps: Download. It is a must to have this installed before proceeding. Without this font installed, the following steps will not work.

- Reboot your phone
- Enable the overlay(s): substratum -> Overlay Manager -> Select your overlay(s) & Press Enable Selected

Just letting you know this doesn’t work on the Galaxy s9/s9+. I have the one font installed as per instructions.. Tried to apply a font and it didn’t work. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ca7cb8e1d83847edb6a1f18c854adbce8d0aa8821c783c0af05ff5e6998bfd68.jpg
Which method did you use? APK one or the substratum one?
I’ve tried both methods neither of them are working. Fonts give an error message of not being supported
If the steps mentioned above are followed correctly, there should be no issues.
Have updated the article, do take a look!
Followed the instructions in your article using the APK. Got the same results. I got the font not supported error on my Galaxy s9 plus.
Can you just let me know the name of the APK file which you installed? Galaxy S9 ships with Oreo and there is a separate APK file for oreo. You need to install the correct file. Please let me know the name of the APK file which you installed.

I tried as well. Same error.
Wings Community 614 Fonts – OREO v2.apk
Did you first install the ‘Samsung Sans’ font from Galaxy Store? Without that, nothing will work! Plus, which method did you use? The normal APK method or Substratum + Andromeda method?
Have updated the article, do take a look!
I used “Wings Community 614 Fonts – OREO v2.apk,” but I used the andromeda substratum stock rootless backend 8.0+ which was the link on the forum.
i just saw that it worked for someone on the forum, so i will have to try again? someone just commented that yesterday …
Did you first install the ‘Samsung Sans’ font from Galaxy Store? Without that, nothing will work!
Article Updated. Please follow method 1. It’s way more simple now. Only 1 APK (APK also changed) to install. Only one command to be passed over ADB. Let me know the results!
Installed Samsung sans and the Oreo font pack with 600+ then tried 900+ fonts on my s9+. Also got the non supported error.
Article Updated. Please follow method 1. It’s way more simple now. Only 1 APK (APK also changed) to install. Only one command to be passed over ADB. Let me know the results!

Everyone: Have updated the article with latest steps to be followed and also, now there are two ways in which you can get the fonts for Galaxy S9. The above method is confirmed to be working; I did personally test it. Let me know if you need more help!
I have a Galaxy S9+, installed the SamsungSans font, installed the correct WingsCommunity614Font for Oreo – Installed the program to my computer, turned on Developer mode and connected to my pc. Allowed trusted devices. Typed everything for CMD as you have it here in the article, and I still get the error and it asks me if I want to uninstall the fonts because they are not compatible.
****I also tried over and used the 614 Fonts for Oreo as well- still the same error***
This thing is breaking my head now! It works perfectly fine for me but I have no idea what is missing. I re-write the instructions once again!
Article Updated. Please follow method 1. It’s way more simple now. Only 1 APK to install. Only one command to passed over adb Let me know the results!
Followed the directions exactly.
Got the same error.
While running the ADB commands, did you get any error? Or did all of them succeed?
UPDATE: Article Updated. Please follow method 1. It’s way more simple now. Only 1 APK (APK also changed) to install. Only one command to be passed over ADB. Let me know the results!
I followed the new directions step by step the entire thing and I still get the error to uninstall the font. Your direct download link states its for an S8+ so I don’t know if that is an issue where I am using an S9+…I don’t know how to attach a file here but in my ADB box it shows my phone’s name as star2qltesq – not what you had stated as what the S9+ should be. After I type in the command as you have it here, the next line shows: 1|star2qltesq – but does nothing for my phone. The fonts ask to be uninstalled.
I followed your instructions and i can confirm it works on the galaxy S9 (cmd overlay enable com.monotype.android.font.samsungsans.WingsSamsungFonts.XDA968FontsbyWinb33). The app installs two versions of each font. One works and the other doesn’t (Says its not compatible). I just use the one that works.
Followed Apk instructions and still says font not supported on S9.
Works perfectly on my Galaxy S9+. I Just followed the instructions to a T and not a single issue or error. You’re the man!
Glad it helped, Tenduramax2! :=)
I have a Samsung S8+ and it works! Amazing… thx!!
This will not void the warranty right? Is this legal? How do i uninstall it if I want to?
This will not void your warranty! To uninstall, simply uninstall the installed APK file.
Which method is the easiest where I don’t have to select the font everytime I reboot?
Currently, there is no way to do that without root.
I tried this and i had lots of font now! but when i tried to apply it, it says that font is not supported. contact font provider. and the only option i get is to uninstall the font.
If you had followed all the steps correctly, you should not be receiving that error. I personally use this mod on my Note 8. Try the whole procedure once more, again? Let me know how it goes! :=)
It doesn’t work on my s9+ please help! The same error when I want to apply the font: font is not supported. Please contact font developer.
its work thank you brother
Glad it helped! You’re welcome :=)
Worked once on my phone and now will not work anymore. Using the substratum one. Tried both oreo and non-oreo versions.
It worked great for me on my galaxy s9. Im not so good with this stuff, so thanks for making it so easy! I used the subatratum and Andromeda apps. It was definitely worth the 1.99!
It sure is. Substratum FTW! <3
Worked on my Note8…finally! I had to uninstall everything including the Samsung Sans font apk and start all over again after the oreo update and very carefully follow every step including the restart of both my phone and my pc before I saw those agravating (wonderful!) duplicate fonts. I knew then I was gonna be ok. Thanks for the great tutorial.
hi
That works! 1.method….but it no more works after phone restart…
Can you fix it? Please!
Doesn’t work for my s9 plus
Method 1 works perfectly is you follow the directions.
Thanks!
I can’t download a thing from that stupid xda forum……..
Sorry to hear that. We will come up with a better download mirror soon!
I just followed method 1 step by step and it worked like a charm on my S9+. Clearly there has to be a step or 2 that people are not doing or understanding.
I am in love with majority of the fonts that were installed. I spent almost a half hour trying to decide which font I wanted to go with.
Great job. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
Thank you!!
Try GxFonts on Google Play Store. Works like a charm. Easy to install. It worked for me on Samsung Galaxy S9+ over Android Pie.
Hey Venkat! Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it on my Galaxy Note 8 running Android Oreo and it does work like a charm. I’ll update the article accordingly. Thanks again 🙂
